Division of Retirement and QDROs

Retirement accounts are often one of a couples' most significant marital assets. To the extent it is a marital asset, it can be divided between the parties in a divorce action. Qualified Domestic Relations Orders (QDROs) are special orders used to transfer the retirement funds of one spouse to another pursuant to a divorce. There are similar retirement division orders for civil service and military retirement plans. Having experienced divorce attorney draft the order or review a proposed order can protect your share of the retirement plan.
