Adoption

Although the loss of a natural parent by death or by legal termination of his/her rights is a tragedy, one of the joys of practicing family law is putting families together.   Adoption is a legal means of putting families together and making sure the law is strictly followed is the way to make sure the new family is indeed together. An experienced family lawyer can guide step-parents, kin relations (e.g., grandparents, siblings, aunts and uncles) and non-relations through the court system to that "Gotcha Day" when you adopt a child. Additionally, Kentucky law also provides for the adoption of an adult on his/her consent to be adopted, providing for an option to make permanent relationships that could not or did not become formalized when the person was a child.
